Beware These Signs That Repiping Is in Your Future

Monday, July 20th, 2020 at 11:00 am

plumber-working-on-sink-pipeWhen it comes to plumbing problems, hearing that you need repiping services can be pretty daunting. After all, in some cases, repiping is necessary for the entire home. It’s an unfortunately common problem as the homes in our area continue to age, and their plumbing systems age with them. The good news is, once you have your home repiped, you don’ have to worry about it again for decades.

Before repiping can happen, however, you would need to know the signs that it’s even necessary, right? This can be a hard thing to spot since, after all, your plumbing system is mostly hidden from view behind walls or in your crawlspace. There are symptoms you can watch out for though, which we’ve covered below.

You See Rust in Your Water

When the lining of a pipe starts rusting or becomes corroded, it will start flaking and breaking off. These flakes will enter your home through the faucets and any other plumbing appliances you have, such as your dishwasher, clothes washer, etc. As a result, you’ll notice rusty water.

One thing to note, here–if you only see this water discoloration happening when you use your hot water lines, it’s possible that the problem is actually within your water heater, and not elsewhere within your plumbing system. This is still a problem since your water heater will need to be replaced. So if you notice this symptom, be sure to give us a call either way!

There’s Noticeable Corrosion or Leaks

In many cases, our expert plumbers can pretty easily seal up a leak by welding the pipe or employing some other tactic. But if you have a particular section of plumbing or a pipe that keeps springing leaks and showing signs of corrosion, then you’re probably dealing with a pipe that needs replacing.

It’s actually good news if you find signs of corrosion before a leak actually happens. This means you have time to get prepping done before you have to waste gallons of water or worry about a huge pipe leak wreaking havoc on your property.

You Have Lead Pipes

This isn’t so much a symptom of a problem as it is something you just need to be aware of. Lead pipes are not allowed in home construction anymore, due to the health risks they pose. However, if you live in a home that’s a few decades old, you might still be using lead pipes–and these need to be replaced!

Other Plumbing Problems and Their Symptoms

Repiping isn’t always the answer to your plumbing problems. But the best thing you can do when you notice any disconcerting symptoms regarding your pipes is to give our staff a call. Say, perhaps, you’ve noticed your water bills steadily rising, but there’s no explanation as to why. Or you swear you can hear water running, but no plumbing appliances are on. These are both legitimate reasons to give our number a call.
